Technique
A method to encourage creativity, similar to brainstorming.
Students learn to employ creativity in the analysis of problems, by posing relevant questions when connecting ideas.
The teacher poses a problem. The students are organised in groups. They work in teams to make a list of as many questions as possible. The groups report to the class. The most important/interesting questions are highlighted.
The idea is written on a piece of paper. Then a list of questions is issued on the topic; some of them can lead to posing other, unexpected ones. Question words are included: What? Who? Where? When? Why? How? How long?
Key Points
Starbursting is a form of brainstorming used to generate questions in a systematic, comprehensive way.
